We
all internally struggle with many things. I personally struggle with
forgiveness. And the greatest example of all times is Jesus. He forgave
everyone who were involved with his public execution, starting from his close
disciples who were literally his shadow for 3 years of his public ministry to
Judas who betrayed him to Peter who refused to be associated with him to the Roman
authorities, Jewish leaders and the crowd who hanged him. He forgave everyone!
We see in
Genesis 45: 5, Joseph is doing the same to his brothers, forgiving them and
telling them to not be angry with yourselves because it was all part of God’s
plan and then again in Genesis 50:20, assuring them that he will not harm them (the
brothers) but God bought out good out of an evil deed. And through that others
could be saved. Joseph reassures them that he won't take revenge for selling
him into slavery to the Egyptians.
Joseph
forgiving his brothers, whose betrayal led to Joseph's rise in Egypt, saving
many lives during a famine, including his own family, demonstrates God's
ability to bring ultimate good from deep suffering. Genesis 50:20 means
that people may intend evil, but God can sovereignly turn those malicious
acts into good, ultimately accomplishing His purposes.
Joseph’s perspective
allowed him to forgive his brothers and move forward. His perspective about his
suffering allowed him to be hopeful and not give up!
Even profound
betrayal and hardship (like Joseph's) can be part of a divine plan for a
greater good, even if it takes years to see.
