Growing In The Dark!
1John 3:9
tells us we have ‘God’s seed in us’.This was beautifully explained by a teacher
of the word by using a plant-seed!
Imagine a seed. This seed already has the
embryo in it to transform into a tree, but then for it to be a huge, fruitful, leafy tree
it has to go through processes.
First of all , the seed should no longer want to be a seed but would
want to be a tree i.e. it has to die to itself! Then it has
to be buried, in the ground, into the darkness with dirt clothing it. The dirt
, the soil covering it is actually supplying the needed nutrients to the seed. This
seed remains dormant,as if asleep till
the right conditions and moisture levels are present. And then it bursts
!
It
bursts and small roots start popping. These roots [i am also imparting botanical knowledge] grow down and deep and push the
plant to grow above the soil. The roots make themselves strong and deep enough ,holding tightly to the soil, making
it difficult to uproot the tree!
Similarly
,we ,believers too have the seed planted in us by GOD. But before becoming a deep-rooted
tree useful for GOD,we have to go through the process of first dying to self, then going through darkness and sufferings and
after going through our tunnel, eventually ,when GOD thinks we are ready,we burst into small roots which
will result in us being strongly rooted in Christ and having a deep meaningful
relationship with GOD. Holding tightly to his word makes it difficult to uproot us
resulting in we, turning into fruit-bearing trees for his kingdom!
For the
tree to be strong ,its base-the roots had to be deep and the roots grew in the
dark!
During our dark and desert times ,we tend to root ourselves deeply in God and grow spiritually close to HIM. We turn to him with our prayers and
requests because only he can answer ;only he can provide comfort and peace and
hope in a hopeless situation.
Like the dirty soil which was providing the needed nutrients
to the seed so also the dirt situations around us were actually providing the needed nourishments and refreshments to the
soul ,through his word!
I believe every believer
has “pit times” and only those
dark, stormy, under-the-ground times help our spiritual growth and prepare us to be a huge, fruitful trees above the ground ,in the light, for the world to see ! But we Grow
in the dark!
For me,
personally this is true, because I grew more as a Christian only during my stormy times
and i still am in the process of growing. Also we should understand that all of this, i.e., growing deep roots and transforming into a useful tree, happens over a period of time, not overnight! And even though we will be subjected to occasional pruning i.e. cutting
off dead stems and fruitless branches for our own growth,we wont give up and fall if our roots are strong!
